World biggest bean cake

History has been made at the ancient town of Ipe Akoko in Akoko South East Local Government Area of Ondo state when bean cake believes to be the widest in the world was unveiled.
The world widest bean cake that was prepared by a group of aged women during the famous Chegba Festival, is measured 18.5 inches in diameter and 59 inches in circumference.
The showcasing of the world widest bean cake was witnessed by the mammoth crowd from Ipe and other Akoko neighbouring communities and beyond including journalists.
Chegba festival held at St. Michael‘s Primary School playground, Ipe Akoko, attracted other events such as Uge -virgin- dance, Opara Troupe cultural display, Kally- the Reggae Father and a live performance by a traditional musician Oba Aro.
The festival started about seven hundred years ago when Ipe Akoko Community was founded to celebrate mothers with first safe delivery and bean cake will be prepared to feed such nursing mothers in the town.
Five different bean cakes were prepared by the women during this year’s festival but the one with 18.5 inches in diameter and 59 inches in circumference emerged the world widest bean cake ever as records show that no place in the world such wide single beans cake has ever been made.
Tracing the history of the Chegba Festival, the traditional ruler of the town, the Olupe of Ipe-Akoko, Oba Francis Apata-Arogunbola (ll) explained that the festival was meant to celebrate mothers who bear their firstborn without a problem.
The monarch said, “this is the only town where the world widest bean cake can be found; Ipe Akoko is unique for this, we are happy that our town is making global history”.
Oba Apata-Arogunbola who said Chegba festival was very important for the socio-economic revolution of the community, appealed to Ondo state and federal government’s relevant agencies to enlist the event for world recognition by UNESCO.
Olupe noted that “we appealed to government and corporate organizations to come in and start sponsoring our Chegba festival. This can attract global tourists, we are working gradually to make it more memorable in the future”.
“We appreciate our son, the convener of the festival this year make it distinguished from the past celebration, we thank him for showcasing our rich culture to the outside world. I pray God to grant him more wisdom to promote our town”.
Also speaking with newsmen on the unveiling of the world widest Beans Cake, the convener of 2018 Chegba Fest and Ras innovator, Balogun Adeniyi Ayodele described the event as a mission accomplished.
Balogun Ayodele who is also a Peace Ambassador said efforts were being made to ensure the annual festival attract global tourists as from next edition.
“We want the government to help our community in the sponsorship of Chegba festival like is doing for Osun Osogbo festival, Agungun festival in Kebbi state. We have been fulfilled with the successes recorded in achieving the world widest bean cake”.
An eighty-year-old woman who is one of those who prepared the world widest bean cake, Mrs Victoria Adeola said it was compulsory for all nursing mothers having their first child to participate in the Chegba festival.
It is the hope Ipe-Akoko people and indeed Ondo state that the world widest beans cake made in the town will be recognized and published in the World Guinness Book of record by concerned authorities.
